MySQL + SQL · Lesson 1
Update Multiple Rows
Updating Many Rows
You can update many rows at once with a WHERE condition, or give different values using CASE.
Update by Condition
-- give a 10% raise to all in the Sales department
UPDATE employees
SET salary = salary * 1.10
WHERE department = 'Sales';
Different Values with CASE
UPDATE employees
SET salary = CASE
WHEN id = 1 THEN 60000
WHEN id = 2 THEN 55000
ELSE salary
END
WHERE id IN (1, 2);
Summary
- A single UPDATE with WHERE changes all matching rows.
- Use CASE to set different values for different rows in one query.
